Reporters have faced many challenges in the journalism field, as it has to change constantly and adapt to fit the needs of modern consumers. Throughout our time this semester, we have experienced some of these challenges firsthand. In this podcast episode, Nick Alleva and Sam Mostow discuss some of the largest challenges faced by journalists in their work, as well as some of the solutions we have come up with to counter these obstacles.
Some of the challenges we discussed in the episode include technological evolutions, trustworthiness, reliability and accuracy. According to the Brookings Institution, the evolution of Artificial Intelligence can make it a challenge for an audience to verify what news is real and what is not. The debate on reality segued into our next discussion about finding reliable sources from which to gather information, which can prove challenging for journalists, per Strategic Communications. Finally, we wrapped up everything by talking about the speed and accuracy required from journalists in releasing stories with quick turnaround.
The field of journalism changes and evolves as time progresses. Because of this, it is crucial for journalists to understand the role they play in society, and adapt the ways they tell stories in order to fulfill their obligations to the public. The challenges journalists face change rapidly, which emphasizes the importance of adaptability and flexibility within the field.
